Duynie: Directing the Transition Towards a Circular Agri-food System

Duynie is the European market leader in the valorisation of co-products coming from the food, beverage, and biofuel industry, offering full service across 21 European countries and operating globally. By upcycling co-product streams, such as brewers’ spent grain (Figure 1), Duynie eliminates waste and creates a closed-loop ecosystem for food, feed, and green energy.

Co-product valorisation

The raw material is converted into premium upcycled food ingredients (Figure 2), sustainable feed solutions, pet food ingredients, and industrial starch solutions. It creates value for suppliers by helping industries to achieve their sustainability goals and for customers reducing their products’ carbon footprint.

Upcycling these 100% natural, nutrient-rich side streams significantly lower environmental footprints. The process preserves arable land, reduces Scope 3 emissions for downstream partners and ensures every kilogram of harvested biomass delivers maximum value.

The LIFE Project

Initiatives like the LIFE project Feed the World, Fuel the Brewery (LIFE-Project-FWFB) showcases their commitment by using their innovative spent-grain separation technology. In collaboration with the Heineken brewery in Mons-en-Baroeul, they utilize this technology to extract valuable proteins from brewers’ spent grain, for the food market (Figure 3), while converting the remaining fibers into a renewable biomass source to fuel the brewery and substitute fossil fuels.
