#EUCircularTalks: The role of secondary materials in construction

Online | 20th of October 2022

How effective has the construction system been in using secondary materials from the supply chain? What are the advantages of using secondary raw materials? Join the EU Circular Talks to discover the answers.

Construction materials and products represent about 50% of all raw materials extracted from the earth’s crust. Moreover, the construction phase uses up to 40 % of the total energy, while construction and demolition activities represent 50 % of all waste.

Against this backdrop, secondary materials are available as an alternative to primary ones. The EU Circular Talks will discuss the matter and will be an excellent forum for stakeholders to interact.

About the event

The EU Circular Talks is an exchange concept of the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform (ECESP). It aims to encourage stakeholders to interact and discuss the circular economy topics on the platform.

During the 2021 “Circular Talk on Construction and Infrastructure value chains and market”, stakeholders identified several barriers concerning secondary construction and infrastructure materials, such as waste quality control, inadequate quality, and discontinuity of supply.

The issue will be followed up on this year. The results of each EU Circular Talk will be summarised and published on the ECESP platform.
