Food for Skin – Pioneering Natural Cosmetics Towards Sustainability
In 2020, Food for Skin was founded by two sisters with a mission to make the beauty industry a bit more beautiful. Food for Skin is dedicated to developing high quality products that are 100% natural and vegan, produced in the Netherlands using as many upcycled cosmetic ingredients sourced from the food industry.
Among Food for Skin’s primary sustainability objectives are the removal of microplastics in cosmetics, minimizing the use of virgin natural resources, and achieving growth in both revenue and margins. This approach enables Food for Skin to communicate transparently with its customers, staying away from false promises, without compromising on quality and sustainability.
From a family initiative to an international community
The story of Food for Skin began in 2018 with the development of toxin-free products with upcycled ingredients, aimed at reducing waste and valorizing the planet’s natural resources. Launched in 2020, the company quickie gained recognition, winning several beauty, sustainability and entrepreneurship awards by 2021. In 2022 it received a microplastic free certification, and in 2023 it became a certified B corporation, aspiring to achieve international status by 2024.
Food for Skin’s mission goes beyond providing sustainable skincare. As a B Corp, the company actively contributes to the development of more ingredients obtained from local residual flows (upcycling), invests a lot of time in education, and collaborates with The Plastic Soup Foundation to combat the use of microplastics in cosmetics. Being a B Corp also commits Food for Skin to maintaining a sustainable balance between ‘people, planet & profit’ and donate a part of gross turnover to organizations with similar missions.
The base skincare routine line was developed over two years, in collaboration with a professional laboratory in the Netherlands. All products are certified and rigorously tested. This process ensures high-quality, honest, and 100% natural skincare, crafted from nature’s most powerful and nourishing ingredients: vegetables, plants, and seeds.
