Main lecturers of the Circular Accelerator Training

The training will be guided by our expert main lecturers, Freek van Eijk and Vesna Lavtizar, with occasional guest lecturers where applicable.

Freek van Eijk

Freek van Eijk is the Director of Holland Circular Hotspot and Co-Chair of the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform (ECESP). With decades of experience in sustainability and business transformation, he supports governments, businesses, and knowledge institutions in accelerating the transition to a circular economy. Freek regularly leads expert training sessions for companies, cooperatives, municipalities, ministries, and consultancy firms across Europe and beyond. He is also an Adjunct Professor at LUISS Business School in Amsterdam, where he lectures on circular economy strategy and innovation. Holding an MSc in Engineering from Delft University of Technology, Freek is recognized as a senior expert in waste management and circular economy, often described as a “mover and shaker” in the field.

Vesna Lavtizar

Dr. Vesna Lavtizar is a circular economy specialist with a strong background in environmental sciences. She has worked closely with national and local governments and organizations to shape policy and sustainability plans. Her teaching experience spans Japan, Slovenia, Norway, and the Netherlands. Vesna blends her expertise with strong listening and facilitation skills to ensure each training is both engaging and relevant. Her international collaborations reflect a broad understanding of circular economy dynamics across Europe and Asia. Vesna is also a Board Member of the Slovene Dutch Business Platform (SDBP) and Co-founder of the Circular Economy Coalition.

Training structure: 4 engaging modules (2 Hours each)

Module 1: Circular Economy Fundamentals

Topic: Understanding the Core Principles of the Circular Economy

Description: This module introduces the core concepts of the circular economy, including systems thinking and the shift from linear to circular approaches. It emphasizes the importance of viable business models in making circular strategies work. A solid foundation for aligning participants around key principles and a shared language.

Module 2: Circular Economy in Action – Case Studies from the Netherlands and beyond

Topic: Learning from Real Examples

Description: Explore compelling case studies from the Netherlands and beyond, highlighting how national and local governments, businesses, and institutions are turning circular principles into practical solutions. Gain insights into the enabling policies, strategies, and programs that drive circular innovation and uptake on the ground.

Module 3: Governance, Finance & Implementation Tools

Topic: Governance, Stakeholder Engagement, and Key Enablers of Circular Transition

Description: This integrated module explores how effective governance structures, multistakeholder collaboration, strategic procurement, and financing mechanisms that can drive circular transformation. Participants will learn how to coordinate efforts across public and private sectors and apply essential tools that support the circular transition.

Module 4: Circular economy by Sector – Case Studies & Lessons Learned

Topic: Applying Circular Economy to Key Sectors

Description: In this final module, participants will actively apply what they’ve learned in previous sessions to a real-world sectoral challenge—such as in agrifood, construction, or plastics. Through real-life case studies and interactive exercises, the module focuses on translating circular economy principles into practical, sector-relevant strategies.
