The Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC)
The Biobased Industries Consortium (BIC) is a European industry association driving the transition to a sustainable, biobased economy. BIC connects companies of all sizes with researchers, policymakers, and other stakeholders to develop innovative value chains using renewable biological resources.
Main Goals
- Promote innovation and collaboration across industries to replace fossil-based materials with sustainable alternatives.
- Support the development of competitive, bio-based products that contribute to the EU’s climate and sustainability targets.
- Strengthen Europe’s biobased economy by fostering partnerships between industry and research sectors.
Key services for SMEs
HCH is a full member of BIC. This membership allows Dutch SMEs to mandate HCH as their representative in shaping discussions that influence upcoming EU funding calls for bio-based economy development, while benefitting from multiple networking opportunities that contribute to closing value chains and preparing strong funding proposals.
For small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the HCH mandate at BIC offers:
- Visibility and Networking: Access to a broad network of partners and opportunities to spotlight your innovations.
- Funding Opportunities: Guidance on EU funding mechanisms like Horizon Europe and the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU).
- Policy Representation: Advocacy for the interests of SMEs in shaping EU policies that impact the biobased sector.
Bioresources for a circular and biobased economy
The evolving global focus on sustainability, brings new opportunities for biobased solutions. Together with public, private, and academic partners, HCH is creating a work agenda that positions bioresources as one of the priority topics in the international transition to circularity. This agenda will include strategic initiatives aimed at fostering collaboration, advancing research, and promoting the adoption of biobased solutions across various industries.
For years, HCH has been developing activities, sharing knowledge, and promoting best practices on the biobased topic through various initiatives such as the publications ‘Chemical Recycling in a Circular Perspective’, and ‘Food and Materials for a Sustainable Future’. Additionally, HCH has been actively participating in Horizon projects like BioModels4Regions.
