Biomodel4Regions
The Biomodel4Region project aims to establish innovative governance models at the local and regional level to enhance decision-making processes, social engagement, and innovation in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals.
This initiative focuses on three key objectives:
1. Supporting the development of regional/local strategies to harness local potentials and innovations within the bio-based economy, thereby facilitating the transition to a broader bioeconomy.
2. Creating novel business models to promote environmentally responsible behavior among consumers, industries, and public bodies through the adoption of biobased products and services.
3. Developing best practice guidelines for local operators and innovation developers to enhance the climate-neutrality and environmental sustainability of bio-based products and services.
The project’s methodology revolves around establishing a governance structure among bioeconomy clusters, leveraging previous successful initiatives and best practices.
The six clusters represent the regions:
-Delta Region, represented by HCH
-Bioeconomy Cluster (Bec), Slovakia
-Biofuel Region Bfr Ab (Bfr), Sweden, A Forest Industry Cluster
-Cluster Viooikonomias Kai Perivallontos Dytikis Makedonias (CluBe), Macedonia, Greece, Cluster Of Bioeconomy & Environment Western Macedonia
-Spring Sustainable Processes And Resources For Innovation And National Growth (SPRING), Italy
-Stowarzyszenie Zachodniopomorski Klaster Chemiczny Zielona Chemia (WPCC), Poland, Chemisch Cluster Zielona
Through collaboration with six pilot regions selected from diverse geographic and economic contexts, including Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Central-Western EU, the project aims to demonstrate the effectiveness and replicability of its approach. These case studies, spanning various primary sectors such as forestry, agri-food, aquatic biomass, and organic fraction of municipal solid waste (OFMSW), will serve as transferable models that can be replicated throughout Europe post-project completion.
Background
For years, HCH has been developing activities, sharing knowledge, and promoting best practices on the biobased topic through various initiatives such as the publications ‘Chemical Recycling in a Circular Perspective’, and ‘Food and Materials for a Sustainable Future’. Additionally, HCH has been actively participating in Horizon projects like BioModels4Regions.
A significant development in The Netherlands and the Delta region is the transition of representation and visibility opportunities from Circular Biobased Delta to HCH. Representation of industry in the region (and beyond) is now led by HCH. A long-term programmatic plan will capitalise on this momentum, enhances existing initiatives and drives measurable impact.
