Partner Spotlight: FIVREC Strengthening Eastern Europe’s E-Waste Supply Chain
October 29, 2026
Headquartered in Lithuania, Fivrec is a recycling SME specialising in lithium-ion battery recycling, with the objective of building an Industry 4.0 urban mining system for recovering critical metals from end-of-life products. Backed by over 15 years of experience in the recycling industry and a global network of material sourcing partners, FIVREC serves as the CLOSER consortium’s regional manager for Eastern Europe — one of three regional managers securing the e-waste streams.
Within CLOSER, FIVREC contributes to:
WP2 – End-of-life PV and WEEE streamlining from B2C/B2B markets, where FIVREC takes responsibility for the consumer and portable electronics WEEE stream (T2.2)
WP2 – Regional e-waste sourcing across Eastern Europe, alongside ERP for Southern Europe and Closing the Loop for extra-EU collection
WP2 – Hosting one of the industrial lines where the project’s new in-line spectroscopic e-waste characterisation system will be tested and validated
WP7 – Requirements elicitation and business use case definition for Digital Product Passport (DPP) traceability and sustainability applications (T7.2)
WP1 – Project management and coordination
Recent update
FIVREC has upgraded its sorting line to also process LCD screens, extending the company’s capability beyond lithium-ion batteries into a second strategically important waste stream.
The upgrade is directly relevant to CLOSER’s objectives. Screens carry indium in their ITO (Indium Tin Oxide) layers, and recovering it depends first on separating those devices into homogeneous, well-characterised batches before any metallurgical step begins. By adding LCD screen sorting, FIVREC widens the range of material it can accept, dismantle and sub-sort — and strengthens its role in channelling WEEE from the Eastern European region into the consortium’s recovery chain.
It underlines something often overlooked in discussions about critical raw materials: recovery technology only delivers if the right material reaches it, in the right condition and in sufficient volume. Collection, sorting and feedstock quality are not preliminaries to circularity — they are the foundation of it.
FIVREC will continue broadening the streams it can process and supply to CLOSER partners in the coming project period.
