Call for Applications: Circular Economy Hotspot 2026 & 2027 (Africa–Middle East)

Are you ready to host the next Circular Economy Hotspot in 2026 or 2027?


Holland Circular Hotspot and the Circular Economy Hotspot community are launching an open call to find the next host city or region in the Africa–Middle East region. This is a unique opportunity for governments and organizations to showcase local circular practices from innovative business models and industrial solutions to pioneering policies. The goal: to make the event a catalyst for local circular development, sparking momentum, collaboration, and lasting impact.

A Successful Global Event Since 2016

Launched in the Netherlands in 2016, the Circular Economy Hotspot has become a globetrotting annual gathering celebrating circular innovation and collaboration.
Previous hosts include Luxembourg, Scotland, Belgium, Catalonia, Dublin, Canada, Chile, Brazil, Nigeria, and South Africa.

On October 1st 2025, Ethiopia will host the Africa–Middle East Hotspot edition in Addis Abeba. The event will spotlight innovative circular practices, bringing together policymakers, entrepreneurs, researchers, and industry leaders from around the world. This year’s edition is organised under the auspices of the Environmental Protection Authority of Ethiopia (EPA) and supported by GIZ NCA, R4C, UNIDO Creative Hub, and the Embassy of Finland.

Application timeline and how to apply

  • Deadline to Apply: September 25, 2025 (end of day)

  • Pitching Session for the selection of the 2026 Circular Economy Hotspot Africa: September 30, 2025 at the UNIDO Creative Hub in Addis Ababa (in person or digital)

  • Winner Announcement: October 1, 2025 at the closing ceremony of the Ethiopia Circular Economy Hotspot

    National and regional governments and organisations from the Africa–Middle East region are invited to apply. Please indicate whether you are applying for the 2026 or 2027 edition.
