Brno to Host the Circular Economy Hotspot 2027!

In Ljubljana on the 11th of September 2025, the city of Brno in Czech Republic has been officially selected to host the Circular Economy Hotspot 2027, becoming the next European city to step onto the global circular stage.
The announcement was made during the Circular Economy Hotspot Slovenia 2025 in Ljubljana, where more than 430 participants gathered to exchange the latest circular economy innovations and solutions.
Building on a Strong Circular Legacy
Since the first Circular Economy Hotspot in the Netherlands in 2016, these annual international events have showcased local circular achievements, innovative business models, and forward-looking policy approaches. Over the years, they have inspired countless businesses and regions to accelerate their circular transitions — leaving a strong legacy across Luxembourg, Scotland, Belgium, Catalonia, North Rhine-Westphalia, Dublin, Wales, and Slovenia.
Beyond Europe, editions have taken place in Nigeria, South Africa and Chile, followed by Canada, and soon Ethiopia, Mexico and Taiwan, reflecting the growing global reach of the CE Hotspot movement.
Why Brno?
The decision to award the 2027 edition to Brno was taken by a jury of five current and former CE Hotspot organisers:
Holland Circular Hotspot (2016), Ministry for Environment, Climate and Energy Slovenia (2025), Government of Catalonia (2020/21), City of Bottrop (North Rhine-Westphalia 2022), and BCSD Hungary (2026).
The jury praised Brno’s strong sustainable track record, access to business and finance networks, and thriving innovation ecosystem within Central Europe’s industrial heartland. These qualities make it a strategic gateway for scaling circular solutions across the region.
