Circular Cities
Cities are the centre of human activity. Today, over 55% of the global population lives in cities, generating 80% of global GDP. By 2050, the share of people living in cities is expected to reach 68%. Approximately 70-75% of global resources are consumed by urban activities while accounting for 70% of global greenhouse gas emissions. The rapid growth of cities can aggregate and aggravate key societal challenges, from unemployment and inequality, to pollution and climate change. Circular Economy strategies have the potential to offer solutions: they can start small and deliver results ‘close to home’.
